Auto Organizing Folders

An organized folder structure is a very rewarding and worthwhile endeavor, but manually organizing folders can be time-consuming and tedious. Mylio Photos’ Auto Organize can help streamline the process of organizing and consolidating folders by automatically grouping photos and videos based on their metadata.

• Using Auto Organize is a permanent action and cannot be undone.
• Your photos and videos will be sorted both inside Mylio Photos and on your computer, hard drive, or other device holding originals.
• Auto Organize uses the metadata from your photos and videos. If the metadata is incorrect, media will not be sorted correctly.
• Auto Organize is available for macOS and Windows computers only. It is not available on iOS and Android devices.

Using Auto Organize

1. Open Mylio Photos and go to the Folders View.

2. Select the folder(s) you want to organize.
3. Open the Organize menu and select Organize Folders.

4. Choose how you would like your folder organized:
   • Year/Month will automatically create parent folders by year and subfolders for each month, formatted as 2006 > (04) April
   • Year will automatically create folders for each year, formatted as 2006.
   • Day will automatically create folders for each day, formatted as April 8, 2006.
   • Custom allows you to choose specific information to include in your folder and subfolder names. For example, if you want your folder and subfolder formatted as 2022 > 2022-03-31 you would enter {Y}/{Y}-{m}-{D} in the custom field. Scroll down for a complete list of custom options.

*TIP: By default, auto-organized folders will be placed at the top level of your Mylio Library Folder. To place an auto-organized folder into another location or subfolder, include the name(s) of the folders in your folder hierarchy. For example, auto-organizing files inside a top-level folder called Photos with a subfolder called Travel would be formatted as Photos/Travel/{Y}/{Y}-{m}-{D} in the custom field.

5. Once the Auto Organize has been run, your photos will be displayed in their new hierarchy and the structure will be updated on all your Mylio Photos devices.

!WARNING: Any changes made to Folders in Mylio Photos will affect the folder structure on your computer and devices. If Mylio Photos shares access to folders on your hard drive with other photo applications such as Lightroom Classic, Luminar AI, or any other application with a catalog, moving folders and images in Mylio Photos can corrupt your catalog in other applications.

Custom Folder Name Options

Selecting the Custom Folder Naming option lets you choose specific information to include in your folder name and folder structure. The following list includes the available parameters.

• {A} Full weekday name e.g. Friday
• {b} Abbreviated month name e.g. Jun
• {B} Full month name e.g. June
• {c} Camera serial number e.g. 026401
• {CY} Current year e.g. 2022
• {CM} Current month e.g. 01 to 12
• {CD} Current day of the month e.g. 01 to 31
• {CT} Current time HHMMSS e.g. 101259
• {d} Date in the form YYMMDD e.g. 001231 (for December 31, 2000)
• {D} Day of the month e.g. 01 to 31
• {F} Name of the folder that contains the media e.g. Vacation2015 for a folder named Vacation 2015
• {h} Hour – 12 hour clock e.g. 01 to 12
• {H} Hour – 24 hour clock e.g. 00 to 23
• {i} Abbreviated camera name e.g. 5D (for Canon EOS 5D)
• {I} Full camera name e.g. Canon EOS 5D
• {j} Day of the year e.g. 001-366
• {m} Month e.g. 01 to 12
• {M} Minutes e.g. 00-59
• {n1} Sequence Number e.g. 1, 12, 150
