If a group of images needs a similar descriptive name, renaming them as a group can save a lot of time.

  1. Select a group of photos.
  1. Right-click on your selection or click/tap on the Actions menu in the right sidebar and select Rename Files.

  1. Mylio will open the Rename Files dialog with options for renaming the selected files. Choose one of the following options:
    • Prefix-Sequence – lets you enter custom text as a prefix and automatically numbers the images. For example, if you’re renaming a folder of flower photos, you might choose to enter “flowers” in the prefix field. Your images would be renamed flowers1.jpg, flowers2.jpg, flowers3.jpg, etc.
    • Year-Month-Day-# – uses the image metadata to determine the capture date of each photo and applies that date to the file name. A series of images captured on April 8, 2006 would be renamed to to 2006-04-08-1.jpg, 2006-04-08-2.jpg, 2006-04-08-3.jpg, etc.
    • Year-Month-# – uses the image metadata to determine the capture year and month of each photo and applies that information to the file name. A series of images captured on April 8, 2006 would be renamed as 2006-04-1.jpg, 2006-04-08-2.jpg, 2006-04-3.jpg, etc.
    • Camera-# – uses the image metadata to determine the camera model used to capture the photo and applies that information to the file name. A series of images captured by a Canon EOS Digital Rebel would be renamed to Canon EOS Digital Rebel-1.jpg, Canon EOS Digital Rebel-2.jpg, Canon EOS Digital Rebel-3.jpg, etc.
    • Custom – allows you to choose specific information to include in your file names. For example, if you’re renaming a series of flower photos captured on April 8, 2006, you may want to create a filename template that contains the date, some custom text describing the subject matter, and the sequence. A custom template of {d}_custom-text_{n4} would rename your files to 20060408-flowers-0001.jpg, etc. Scroll down for a complete list of custom options.

  1. Once you’ve made your file naming choice, click or tap the Rename Files button.

  1. Click or tap on the Activities icon in the top app bar to check the progress.
  2. When Mylio Photos has finished renaming your media, you’ll be notified that the process is complete. You can view your notifications by clicking on the Notifications icon in the top app bar.
