Designating an external hard drive as a Vault is a great way to consolidate your photo and video collection into one central location. However, having a single Vault device does not automatically create a backup copy of your Originals. Learn more about the importance of a Vault.
To back up and better protect your files, we recommend users have at least two (2) Vault devices, meaning two full copies of their original photos and videos. A second copy protects you from hardware failure or catastrophic loss, such as theft.
!WARNING: Any photo deleted in the Mylio Photos app on any device will be automatically deleted from your Vault device(s) as well. We recommend using a system backup utility such as Time Machine on macOS or a cloud backup utility such as Backblaze to protect against accidental data loss caused by a user.
!NOTE: If you use a third-party backup system such as Apple’s Time Machine to back up your Vault device, you may not need a secondary Vault device. Backup best practices recommend having at least two local copies of your data on separate devices. This could be two Vaults (two separate external hard drives) or one Vault device and one Time Machine backup. IMPORTANT: These need to be on two separate external hard drives.
