The Tone section contains the most essential controls for adjusting a photograph and can be used for both problem solving and creative edits.

To fix tone problems:

  1. Open an image in Single Photo View, then open the Edit Panel in the Details Panel.

  1. In the Tone section, adjust the sliders to enhance your photo.

Tone Adjustments

  • Exposure – Adjust the overall brightness of a photo with Exposure. Moving the slider to the left will darken the photo. Moving the slider to the right will brighten the photo.
  • Contrast – Contrast is the difference between brightness and color that makes one object in a photo distinguishable from another. To increase contrast, move the slider to the right. To decrease contrast, move the slider to the left.
  • Highlights – The Highlights slider adjusts the brightness of the brightest areas of the image. Moving the slider to the right will cause the bright areas to become brighter. Moving the slider to the left will darken the brightest areas.
  • Shadows – The Shadows slider adjusts the darkest areas of a photo. Moving the slider to the right brightens the darkest areas. Moving the slider to the left darkens the darkest areas.
  • Whites – The Whites slider adjusts the white point of the histogram and the white tones in an image. Moving the slider to the right brightens the brightest tones and compresses the histogram to the right. Moving the slider to the left darkens white tones and compresses the histogram to the left.
  • Blacks – The Blacks slider adjusts the black point of the histogram and the black tones in an image. Moving the slider to the right makes the black tones brighter and compresses the histogram to the right. Moving the slider to the left darkens the black tones and compresses the histogram to the left.
  • Clarity – Clarity affects mid-tone contrast and the appearance of detail. Moving the slider to the right will add contrast and the appearance of detail. Moving the slider to the left will decrease contrast and soften details.
