JPEG
JPEG files are best for email and online sharing. However, caution should be used when editing and re-saving JPEG images as it can significantly degrade the image quality.
PNG
PNG files are well suited to web use. They maintain high quality with a relatively small file size and do not suffer the same image quality degradation from re-saving as JPEG files. However, PNG does not support embedded EXIF metadata.
TIFF
TIFF files are best used for prints and high-quality archive images. A TIFF file can contain all rendered raw data from the original file, supports layers, and will not suffer quality loss with re-saving. TIFF files can be large and unsuitable for widespread sharing or web use.
