Many cameras can save raw+jpeg pairs when capturing images. This can be useful if you want a processed version available for easy sharing and a higher-quality raw file in case advanced edits are desired.

When raw+jpeg pairs are imported into Mylio Photos, the app will automatically stack them together so you’re viewing a single version of the image in your Mylio Photos Library.

The Filename field in the *Info Panel* displays the file types available for each image. When a raw+jpeg pair is stacked, the filename will be followed by the raw file extension, jpg, and xmp. For example, 221201_0002.(arw, jpg, xmp).

Mylio Photos displays the raw version of the raw+jpeg pair by default. If you’d prefer to prioritize the JPEG version in a stack:

  1. Click the ellipsis icon in the top app bar to access the More menu and choose Settings.
  2. Select General then toggle the switch next to Prefer RAW when available to the OFF position.

Editing RAW+JPEG Pairs

Editing in Mylio Photos

Mylio Photos edit tools apply to the currently visible image in a stack.

  • If Prefer RAW when available is ON, Mylio Photos will edit the raw file.
  • If Prefer RAW when available is OFF, Mylio Photos will edit the JPEG file.

You can adjust this setting from the More menu > Settings > General, then toggle the switch next to Prefer RAW when available.

Editing with an External Editor

Images in Mylio Photos can be edited with various external editors. To open an image in an external editor, go to the Photo menu in the operating system menu bar, mouse over Open With, then choose the application you’d like to use.

Before launching your selected external editor, Mylio Photos will ask which version of a photo you’d like to edit.

  • To edit your original image’s raw version, check the box next to Prefer RAW file if available.
  • To edit your original image’s JPEG version, uncheck the box next to Prefer raw file if available.
