Auto Organize Folders

Creating a well-structured folder system makes it easier to manage and find your media, but organizing everything manually can be time-consuming. Mylio Photos’ Auto Organize feature helps streamline this process by automatically sorting your photos and videos into folders based on their metadata (such as date).

!IMPORTANT NOTES:
— Auto Organize is a permanent action and cannot be undone.
— Files will be reorganized in both Mylio Photos and your file system (e.g., computer, external drive, or NAS).
— Auto Organize is available on macOS and Windows only. It is not supported on iOS or Android.
— You must be in the Everything Space with no filters applied to use this feature.

Using Auto Organize

1. Click the Spaces icon in the left sidebar and select Everything.
2. Click the Folders icon in the left sidebar to open the Folders View.
3. Select the folder(s) you want to organize.
4. Right-click your selection or tap the Actions Menu icon in the right sidebar.
5. Select More Folder Actions.

6. Choose Organize Folders.

7. Choose an organization format:
   • Year/Month – Creates folders grouped by year, with subfolders for each month.
     • Example: 2025 > (09) September
   • Year – Creates folders for each year.
     • Example: 2025
   • Day – Creates folders for each day.
     • Example: September 18, 2023
   • Custom – Allows you to define a custom folder and subfolder structure using metadata variables. For a full list of custom formatting options, scroll down to the Custom Renaming Options reference section.
     • Example: To organize files by year and date as 2025 > 2025-09-18, enter {Y}/{Y}-{m}-{D} in the custom field.

8. Confirm your selected format, and click Organize Now.

*TIP: By default, auto-organized folders are placed at the top level of your Mylio Library Folder. To To organize files into an existing folder or subfolder, incloude the full path in your custom format. Example: To auto-organize into Photos > Travel > Year-Date use Photos/Travel/{Y}/{Y}-{m}-{D}.

Custom Renaming Options

Selecting the Custom Folder Naming option allows you to define exactly what information appears in your folder names and structure. Expand the list below to view all available parameters, along with descriptions and examples of how each can be used.

!WARNING: Changes made to folders in Mylio Photos will also apply to the folder structure on your computer and connected devices.
If you use other photo applications—such as Lightroom Classic, Luminar AI, or any software that relies on a catalog—moving folders or files in Mylio Photos may break the links in those catalogs and cause data loss or corruption. Use caution when organizing folders shared between Mylio Photos and other catalog-based software.
