Choosing one of the Device Sync Policy Presets (such as SpaceSaver, Vault, etc.) will be suitable in most situations. However, if you’d like more granular control over the files stored on a specific device, you can use SyncCollections. SyncCollections allow you to choose which photos sync based on:
- Rating, Label, and Flag
- Keyword
- Folder
- Date
- File Type
- File Extension
- File Size
- Category
Additionally, you can save a Custom Preset to capture your own set of rules that you may want to reuse on multiple devices.
SyncCollections can be configured in many ways. Here are a few examples:
- Keep all 5-star photos of the people in your family on your phone as optimized quality Images so you always have a high-quality version to view and share.
- Back up your media marked with 4-Stars, 5-Stars, and Pick Flags at the original quality on Mylio Drive+.
- Keep all raw photos from a specific camera captured within the last 90 days on your laptop so you can edit and work with them, even offline.
Adding a SyncCollection
- Click the Dashboard icon in the left sidebar, then choose Devices.
- Select the device you want to manage, then click Device Sync Policies
- Choose a Sync Policy Preset as a baseline (SpaceSaver or Catalog Only are good options).
- In the Image Policies section, you can choose additional media under Originals to control original-quality files, and under Optimized to control optimized-quality files. This determines which files are stored on the selected device and the quality of those files.
- Original-quality files are your full-resolution files and are often needed when making visual edits in external applications or for archival storage.
- Optimized-quality files are smaller versions of your files (~5% the size of the original quality) and are ideal for browsing and sharing.
- Click on the tab for Originals or Optimized, then click the Add SyncCollection button.
- In the SyncCollection builder, use QuickFilters to isolate a group of files you want stored on the selected device. The view will update with each filter to show the files that will be synced. When you’re ready, click Done.
- Add a SyncCollection Name, then click Save.
- You can add as many SyncCollections as you wish. SyncCollections are additive, meaning that each SyncCollection adds to the group of media to sync.
- When you’re done customizing the sync policy, click the Apply Changes button.
