Tap to Sync gives you control over how individual folders are stored on each device, allowing you to override the device’s sync policy. This is especially useful when you want specific folders to be available offline in original or optimized quality—regardless of your default settings.

When to Use Tap to Sync

Here are a few examples where this feature comes in handy:

  • You want original quality images of everything in your 2025 folder on your laptop so you can edit them with external apps while traveling.
  • You want optimized images from your My Amazing Vacation folder on your tablet or smartphone so you can share photos on social media while away from home.

How to Use Tap to Sync

  1. Open Mylio Photos on the device you want to customize.
  2. Click the Folders icon in the left sidebar.
  3. Locate the folder you want to adjust and click the sync policy annotation , , or .
  4. In the popup, choose the desired sync policy for the selected folder on this device:
    • Use Device Sync Policy (default) – Follows the device sync policy for the device you’re currently using.
    • Store Optimized Files Locally – Keeps lightweight, shareable versions of the files locally (estimated storage use will be shown).
    • Store Original Files Locally – Keeps full-resolution originals on this device (estimated storage use will be shown).

  1. If your new folder sync setting reduces the amount of local storage required (for example, changing from Originals to Optimized), Mylio Photos will prompt you with options to clear cached files and free up space. The options vary based on the selected sync policy:
    • Use Device Sync Policy – Choose either Yes, Clear Cache to immediately remove unneeded files or Clear Space as Needed to let Mylio manage storage automatically based on available disk space.
    • Store Optimized Files Locally – Choose Yes, Clear Cache to remove unused files immediately or No, Keep Files to retain them.
    • (Close the dialog) – This acts the same as Clear Space as Needed or No, Keep Files, depending on the folder policy you selected.
