Once faces are tagged in Mylio Photos, you’re no longer limited to browsing by folders or dates. Face tags unlock powerful ways to browse, search, and build precise views of your library, especially when you start combining tools.

Browse by Person with People View

The most visual way to work with face tags is People View. People View groups photos by each tagged person. Click a person to see all the photos they appear in.

This works well for:

  • Browsing photos of one person
  • Reviewing or correcting face tags
  • Exploring memories without thinking about where files live

Find People Using Dynamic Search

Dynamic Search lets you search by a person’s name from anywhere in the app.

Examples:

  • Jane → all photos tagged with Jane
  • "Jane Smith" → all photos tagged with Jane Smith
  • "John Doe" → all photos tagged with John Doe

Dynamic Search also supports custom search expressions, which is where things get interesting – more about this below.

Filtering by Person with QuickFilters

You can also filter by person using QuickFilters. This is useful, but it’s important to understand how it works. QuickFilters use OR logic, not AND logic.

If you pin:

  • Person A
  • Person B

Your results will include:

  • Photos of Person A alone
  • Photos of Person B alone
  • Photos where they appear together

You will not get only photos where both people appear together. QuickFilters are best for broad filtering, not precise combinations.

Build Precise Results with Custom Search Expressions

For exact control, use custom search and filter expressions. These work in:

Custom expressions let you use AND logic, limits, and exclusions. Here are several examples:

Photos Where Two Specific People Appear Together

"Jane Smith" and "John Doe" Shows only photos where both people are tagged.

Photos with Only Those Two People (No One Else)

"Jane Smith" and "John Doe" peoplecount:2 Shows photos where both Jane Smith and John Doe are present, and no additional people are tagged. This is great for couples or two-person portraits.

Parent and Child (Others Allowed)

"Jane Smith" and "Alex Smith" Finds photos where both appear, even if others are also tagged.

Solo Photos of One Person

"Jane Smith" peoplecount:1 Shows photos where Jane Smith is the only tagged person. This is useful for headshots or profile images.

Group Photos Only

peoplecount:3 or peoplecount:>=3 Returns group shots, perfect for events and gatherings.

Exclude a Specific Person

category:family not "Jane Smith" Finds photos categorized as Family that do not include Jane Smith.

Save Reusable Searches as Custom QuickCollections

If you reuse a search often, save it as a custom QuickCollection. That search is now one click away. This is especially useful for:

  • Couples
  • Immediate family groups
  • Clients or subjects you revisit often
  • Ongoing projects
