XMP files (extensible metadata platform) are an industry-standard format for holding additional information about your photos. Mylio utilizes XMP files to move, edit, and file information between your devices. XMP files also ensure that ratings, keywords, face tags, and other information can be seamlessly exchanged with other professional editing tools.
XMP files may contain:
- Edits
- Keywords
- Labels and Ratings
- Face-recognition tags
- Geolocation tags
- and more
How Edits Are Stored in XMP Files
XMP files record changes made in your Mylio Library, including edits made in Mylio. For example, an adjustment to contrast on a photo in Mylio will not alter the original image. Instead, the edited contrast setting is written to the XMP file. When that photo is reopened in Mylio, the original, unedited photo will be displayed with the contrast adjustment read from the XMP file.
Embedding Metadata to a JPG
Mylio’s Save Metadata to File feature allows you to embed image files with metadata including EXIF data (from the camera), captions, keywords, star ratings, copyright, IPTC creator fields, face tags, and places.
- Select the photo(s) you wish to embed with the metadata. Learn how to select multiple images from a computer.
- Go to the Photo Menu and choose Save Metadata to File. Mylio will apply changes stored in the XMP file directly to the image file.
