Whether capturing images of your kids, recording moments of a spectacular vacation, or restoring old family photos, editing can help make your pictures look their best. Mylio Photos contains essential editing tools that work equally well on your computer and mobile devices. Prefer to edit in another application? No problem! Mylio Photos can be used seamlessly with most editing applications.
Open an image in Single Photo View, then click the edit icon to open the Edit Panel. Apply a preset, try AutoEnhance , AutoColor , or AutoTone , or use the sliders to refine your image.
Editing in Mylio Photos is Nondestructive
Nondestructive editing lets you change your image’s appearance without worrying about permanently changing the original-quality file. All edits made in Mylio Photos are stored in the Mylio Photos Catalog and in XMP sidecar files. This enables you to edit freely with the option to revert to your original image anytime.
XMP files record changes made in your Mylio Photos Library, including visual edits. For example, adjusting contrast in Mylio Photos will not alter the original-quality image. Instead, the edited contrast setting is written to the XMP file. When that photo is reopened in Mylio Photos, the original-quality, unedited photo will be displayed with the contrast adjustment read from the XMP file.
Requirements for Editing
To edit images in Mylio Photos, an Optimized or Original quality version must be available on your device. If your photos are stored in a Linked Folder on an external drive, that drive must be powered on and connected. Mylio Photos+ users can use Sync on Demand to temporarily access Optimized quality or Original quality versions of their images to edit using Mylio Drive or by directly connecting to another online Mylio-connected device.
- Working with Original Quality Files
-
An Original file refers to the type of file you added to Mylio Photos. These could be from a digital camera, phone, or scanned image. Original-quality files are fully editable in Mylio Photos on all your devices. Originals are full-quality files that vary in size but are often large and can take up significant hard drive space. Original-quality files may be one of many file formats, including Raw, JPG, HEIC, and PNG. Edits made in Mylio Photos to an original-quality file will saved to their corresponding XMP file and can be changed or reset anytime. For Mylio Photos+ users, these edits will be visible on all of your connected devices.
- Working with Optimized Quality Images (Mylio Photos+)
-
Mylio Photos+ can help save space on your devices by syncing Optimized Images. These files take up significantly less disk space and are perfect for laptops, tablets, and phones where storage space may be limited. Optimized-quality Images are fully editable and offer the same editing flexibility as an original-quality or Raw file.
Optimized-quality images are medium-quality files (1 MB or less) that accurately represent your photo but take up only a fraction of the storage space. Edits made on Optimized-quality images in Mylio will be synced across all your connected devices and can be changed or reset anytime. Your improvements will also seamlessly transfer to your original-quality files, which is useful when you want to use a higher-quality file to make larger prints.
