Add Media From Apple Photos

Mylio Photos can easily connect to media from Apple Photos and your iCloud Photo Library-connected devices (e.g., macOS Computers and iOS devices like iPhones and iPads). Once connected, you can find these photos and videos in the Apple Photos folder in the Folders View.

Connecting to Apple Photos on a Computer

1. Click the plus icon in the top app bar to open the Add Media dialog.
2. Choose Add media from Photos for macOS, iPhoto, or Aperture.
3. Select Apple Photos, then click the Select button.
4. Confirm the Apple Photos Library to link, then click the Link Now button. As you capture new images and videos, they will be automatically added into your Mylio Photos Library.

*NOTE: If you have more than one Apple Photos Library, ensure the library you’re adding to Mylio Photos has been designated as the System Photos Library. Open Apple Photos, then from the Photos menu, choose Preferences. Under General, select the Apple Photos Library you wish to import and click the button to Use as System Photo Library.

Disconnecting Apple Photos on a Computer

Your system Apple Photos library can be easily disconnected from Mylio Photos anytime. This per-device setting will not disconnect other Apple devices currently syncing with Mylio Photos. Disconnecting the system photo library will stop new media from being added to your Mylio Photos Library but will not remove or delete any media that was previously added to your Mylio Photos Library.

1. Click the ellipsis icon in the top app bar to access the More menu and choose Settings.
2. Select Sync then toggle the switch next to Sync System Photo Library to the OFF position.

Connecting to Apple Photos on an iPhone or iPad

There are two ways to add media from an iPhone or iPad to Mylio Photos:

• Installing the Mylio Photos app on your iPhone or iPad. The Mylio Photos iOS and iPadOS app lets you easily view, edit, and organize the photos from your camera roll in the Mylio Photos app. If you’re a Mylio Photos+ subscriber, photos from your camera roll will be automatically backed up to any device you’ve designated as a Vault and accessible via the Mylio Photos application on all of your devices. As you capture new images and videos, they will be automatically added into your Mylio Photos Library.

• Importing from an iPhone or iPad using a direct connection (cable) to your computer. This is ideal for Mylio Photos users who wish to back up their iPhone or iPad camera roll to a computer without a Mylio Photos+ subscription.

Managing Mylio Photos’ iOS Camera Roll Access and Permissions

The first time you launch Mylio Photos on your iPhone or iPad, you’ll be asked to grant permission for Mylio Photos to access the camera roll.

If you choose not to grant permission for camera roll access during the initial setup or later wish to disconnect Mylio Photos from your camera roll, you can update access using the steps below.

Connecting Mylio Photos to your iOS Camera Roll

1. Tap the plus icon in the top app bar to open the Add Media dialog.
2. Choose Add Apple Photos and grant Mylio Photos access to your Apple Photos library.

*NOTE: When granting access to your Apple Photos Library, you can grant access to All Photos or Some Photos. Choosing All Photos allows Mylio Photos to access all of your iCloud Photo Library media, including new photos and videos as they are added. Choosing Some Photos is a one-time import and will not automatically import new photos and videos.

Disconnecting Your Camera Roll on an iOS Device

1. Click the ellipsis icon in the top app bar to access the More menu and choose Settings.
2. Select Sync then toggle the switch next to Sync Camera Roll to the OFF position.

Using Mylio Photos with Apple Photos and iCloud Drive

Adding media from Apple Photos and iCloud Photo Library is one-way. This means that once media has been added to you Mylio Photos Library, any changes made to those images will only be visible from the app where the change was made. Here are examples:

• Image Edits – If you intensify the colors on an image in Mylio Photos, the change will not be reflected in your Apple Photos Library. Similarly, if you convert a photo to black-and-white in Apple Photos after it has been imported into Mylio Photos, the change will not show in Mylio Photos.
• Deleting Photos – If you delete a photo in Mylio Photos, it does not delete the image from Apple Photos or your iCloud Photo Library. If you delete a photo from Apple Photos or your iCloud Photo Library after it has been imported to Mylio Photos, it does not delete the image from Mylio Photos.

What are MYB Files?

Some files from Apple Photos or the iOS Camera Roll (Portrait, slow-mo, Live Photos, etc.) may be added with a .myb (Mylio Bundle) file extension to allow Mylio Photos to sync these unique file types properly. The following effects from Apple Photos are supported:

• Live Photos -syncing, displaying, and playback
• Portrait Mode – syncing and displaying
• Slow-mo videos – syncing and playback supported
• Long Exposure -syncing of still and Live Photos, displaying the still only
• Animations (loop, bounce) – syncing and playback

*TIP: Use QuickFilters to locate all .MYB files. Click or tap the funnel icon in the left sidebar to open the QuickFilters tool. Select By File > By File Extension > .myb.

!WARNING: .MYB files should not be edited, moved, or deleted in your filesystem. Doing so can result in data loss.

Browsing media from Apple Photos in Mylio Photos

When you add media from Apple Photos, Mylio Photos will automatically create an Apple Photos folder. This folder, visible in the Folders view, will contain a sub-folder for each Apple device you add as a Mylio Photos+ device. For example, if you add Apple Photos from your computer and you also install Mylio Photos on your iPhone and your spouse’s iPhone, you’ll see three sub-folders in the top-level Apple Photos folder – one for each device.

Mylio Photos allows viewing the contents of your Apple Photos folder, including sub-folders in a grid or with sub-folders for each device.

1. Click Folders icon in the left sidebar, the select the Apple Photos folder.
   

   
   

   
   

2. Click the ellipsis icon in the top app bar to access the More menu and choose:
   1. Show as container to view separate sub-folders for each device, or
   2. Show media in Apple Photos to view all media, including subfolder contents, in a grid.
      
      

*NOTE: If you add multiple Mylio Photos+ devices that share your iCloud Photo Library (for example, a Mac, iPhone, or iPad all using the same Apple ID), only add media that has not yet been imported will be added to your Mylio Photos Library, preventing duplicate images.

*TIP: If you’re running out of storage space on your iPhone or iPad, we highly recommend using Mylio Photos+ built-in tool to free up space on your device. Before deleting photos from your camera roll, Mylio Photos will verify that the images have been backed up and protected to at least two Vault devices so you don’t lose any precious memories.
