Starting over with Mylio Photos is a significant step that is rarely necessary and should be approached with caution. Often, the challenges you may face with the software can be resolved without resetting your entire setup.
This tutorial is designed to guide you through the process of performing a factory reset with Mylio Photos, but it is strongly recommended that you only proceed with these steps if you have been explicitly instructed to do so by the Mylio support team or you’re certain you want to reset your entire account and system to achieve a different configuration. Additionally, please read through the complete instructions below before proceeding to ensure you understand each step and its implications fully.
Things to consider before resetting or starting over with Mylio Photos:
- You know where your media files reside and are comfortable re-importing them into Mylio Photos.
- Your original-quality files are stored locally (not on a Mylio-connected cloud device).
- Many of the metadata changes made in Mylio Photos are saved to sidecar XMP files, which means that information (such as face tags, date corrections, GPS information, etc.) can be re-imported after resetting and starting over with Mylio Photos. However, organization information such as Albums, Events, QuickCollections, Categories, and Spaces will be permanently erased and must be manually recreated after resetting and starting over with Mylio Photos.
Starting over with Mylio Photos involves two primary actions: unregistering your devices from your Mylio account and resetting the application on each device.
- Click the Dashboard icon in the left sidebar, the click Devices.
- Each device connected to your Mylio account will be shown on a Device Card. To unregister each device associated with your Mylio account, click on a Device Card and choose Unregister Device.
- Enter
confirm
and then click the Confirm button. - Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each device, saving the device you are currently using for last.
- After unregistering your final device, click Yes to Reset Local Library.
- Close Mylio Photos to begin the Factory Reset, then restart the application.
- Complete the Factory Reset by typing
reset
and clicking Confirm. - Locate the Mylio System Folder and rename it.
- On macOS the Mylio System Folder is located at /Users/yourname/
- On Windows it is located at C:\Users\yourname
- Repeat the Factory Reset process using the Support Options for any other computers associated with your account.
- To reset mobile devices, delete the Mylio Photos app and re-download Mylio Photos from the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store.
- To reset any external hard drive devices configured with Mylio Photos, rename the
Mylio_xxxxxx
(where xxxxxx is a unique set of numbers or letters) folder Mylio Photos creates on the drive. - To reset a cloud device configured with Mylio Photos, delete the
Mylio
folder. - Once all of your devices have been factory reset, log in to the Mylio Photos application using the email address associated with your account.
- IMPORTANT: If you previously used Mylio Drive, close the Guided Import dialog (do not add any new media), go to Dashboard > Devices, and enable Mylio Drive. Allow Mylio Drive to fully sync (you can verify progress by clicking on the activities icon in the top app bar). If any residual files are synced from your previous installation, delete them from within Mylio Photos and allow Mylio Drive to fully sync those changes. Once that is complete, you can click the Add Media icon or re-open Guided Import to start adding media.
