Folders and files in Mylio Photos directly reflect the structure of your actual file system. When you view the Folders View in Mylio Photos, you see the real locations of your photos, videos, and documents on your computer and external storage.

Mylio Photos is designed to work with your file system, not separately from it. When you add, move, rename, or delete a folder or file inside Mylio Photos, those changes are applied to the file system on the device where the media is stored and synchronized across all connected devices, including those designated as Vaults (devices that hold a full copy of your library).

What are Folders in Mylio Photos?

In Mylio Photos, folders are the primary way to organize and manage your media at the file system level. Each folder corresponds to a real location on a connected device, making Mylio ideal for users who want complete control over how their files are structured and stored.

Mylio Photos automatically creates specific folders as part of your setup:

  • Mylio InBox – A convenient drop zone for quickly importing media. This folder is continuously watched by Mylio and is available as a shortcut in both Windows Explorer and macOS Finder.
  • Mylio Pictures – The default folder where Mylio stores newly imported files, unless you’ve specified another location.
  • Apple Photos – If you connect an Apple Photos Library (iPhone, iPad, or Photos for macOS), Mylio creates this folder to store synced media.
  • Android Photos – If you connect an Android device, Mylio creates this folder to store media synced from your phone or tablet.

In addition to these default folders, you can create and organize your own folders within Mylio Photos to suit your specific projects, workflows, or organizational style.

Best Practices for Managing Files and Folders

For the best experience, we recommend managing your photo library from within the Mylio Photos application. While making changes directly in macOS Finder or Windows Explorer is possible, doing so can disrupt sync relationships or create confusion across devices.

Working inside Mylio ensures that:

  • Changes are tracked and synced correctly
  • Metadata remains intact
  • Vaults and backups stay up to date
  • You benefit from Mylio’s visual tools and organization features

Copy, Paste, and Sharing

Mylio Photos allows you to copy media directly from within the app to your system clipboard, making it easy to paste images into other applications, such as documents, presentations, emails, or even supported fields in web browsers.

This seamless integration helps you:

  • Quickly insert images into your favorite apps without needing to export them first.
  • Avoid digging through the file system to locate the original file.
  • Reduce clutter by eliminating the need for temporary exported copies.

Whenever possible, perform copy-and-paste actions from within Mylio Photos rather than through your file system. This ensures better control, preserves metadata, and maintains the integrity of your library.
