Descriptive file and folder names make it easier to search and organize your media in Mylio Photos. You can rename photos, videos, and documents individually or in batches, either during import or at any time afterward. Folders can also be renamed directly within Mylio Photos, helping you maintain a clean and consistent folder structure without leaving the app.

Renaming Files

Mylio Photos gives you several ways to rename your photos, videos, and documents—whether you’re updating a single file name or applying changes to a group. Choose the method that best fits your workflow by expanding the options below.

Renaming a Photo, Video, or Document

Mylio Photos offers two easy ways to rename individual files—either directly from the Info Panel or through the Actions menu. Both methods are useful for giving your files more descriptive, searchable names as you organize your library.

To rename a single file using the Info Panel:

  1. Select the photo, video, or document you want to rename.
  2. Click the Info icon at the top of the right sidebar to open the Info Panel.
  3. Click the File Name field, enter a new name, and press Enter to apply the change.

This method is ideal for quickly updating individual file names while reviewing metadata or making other adjustments.

To rename a single file from the Actions menu:

  1. Select the photo, video, or document you want to rename.
  2. Right-click the file or tap the Actions Menu icon in the right sidebar.
  3. Choose Rename File.

  1. This will open the Info Panel with the file name highlighted. Simply edit the name in the text field and press Enter to save the change.

Batch Rename a Group of Files

If you have a group of photos, videos, or documents that need similar descriptive names, batch renaming can help you rename them quickly and consistently.

To batch rename files:

  1. Select multiple files in the grid view.
  2. Right-click your selection or tap the Actions Menu icon in the right sidebar and select Rename Files.

  1. Choose a naming pattern:
    • Prefix-Sequence – Enter custom prefix and apply automatic numbering.
      • Example: flowers1.jpg, flowers2.jpg, flowers3.jpg
    • Year-Month-Day-# – Uses each file’s capture date (from metadata) as the prefix.
      • Example: 2006-04-08-1.jpg, 2006-04-08-2.jpg, 2006-04-08-3.jpg
    • Year-Month-# – Uses the year and month from the metadata.
      • Example: 2006-04-1.jpg, 2006-04-08-2.jpg, 2006-04-3.jpg
    • Camera-# – Uses the camera model (from metadata) as the prefix.
      • Example: Canon EOS Digital Rebel-1.jpg, Canon EOS Digital Rebel-2.jpg, Canon EOS Digital Rebel-3.jpg
    • Custom – Create your own naming template using variables such as date, sequence number, or custom text.
      • Example: A template like {d}_flowers_{n4} would generate 20060408-flowers-0001.jpg, 20060408-flowers-0002.jpg
      • For a full list of custom renaming options and variables, scroll down to the Custom File Naming reference section.
  2. Once you’ve selected your file naming format, click Rename Files to apply the changes.
